supervision of the Pathologists, this job performs gross
examination of surgical specimens and assists the Pathologists in
all areas except for consultation and reporting of specimens;
maintains confidentiality of patient related information. To

discretion. Education Required - Bachelor's degree in Science or
related field Preferred - Master’s degree as Pathologist’s
Assistant Work Experience Required - None. Two year acceptable
training program (Medical school training, such as a non U.S.
Medical School may be considered equivalent upon review) Knowledge
Skills and Abilities (KSAs) - Must have computer skills and
dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient
information. - Effective verbal and written communication skills
and the ability to present information clearly and professionally
to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care
process. - Must be proficient with Windows-style applications,
various software packages specific to role and keyboard - Good
communication skills - Good interpersonal skills Job Duties •
Receives and processes surgical specimens; verifies patient,
container and cassettes for proper identification and accession
numbers. • Reviews requisition for pertinent information and is
able to discern and select the appropriate section of tissue
describing measurements and contents submitted per cassette. •
Correctly orients tissue; utilizes dye or ink to mark marginal
areas of interest, submitting thin sections properly oriented in
cassette. • Clear concise dictation; utilizes clear, understandable
concise descriptions of specimens including any notes of decals, of
pieces submitted, send outs or special procedures. • Prepares
frozen sections for staff pathologist, properly orienting,
sectioning and staining slides with CAP guidelines. • Takes gross
photographs of appropriate specimens. • Documents quality assurance
incidences, resolves specimen problems within 24 hours;
consistently submits thin well-fixed tissue sections; assists
supervisor in implementing and collecting data for performance
improvement projects. • Adapts behavior to the specific patient
population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy,
method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of
services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and
communication style. Other related duties as required. The above

though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job
should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or
standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting
most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg
controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production
rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of
materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.
NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production
rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is
physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force
exerted is negligible. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods
of time. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time. Duties
performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and
