The primary purpose of the position is to provide professional acute and rehabilitation/restorative nursing to geriatric residents with chronic disease processes. Responsibilities As a Clinical Nurse, you will: Provide comprehensive nursing care for the geriatric patients based on the nursing process. Implement the physician and nursing care plan. Transcribe and implement the provider's written orders. Administer medications observing the five rights, knowledgeable of the use and side effects of each medication and completes the appropriate documentation. Qualifications You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Physical Requirements: The work involves long periods of moving about the work unit. Work requires regular and recurring standing, bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, lifting and repositioning Residents. Must use proper body mechanics when lifting objects and use lift equipment for Residents. The work may require considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as lifting objects greater the 50 pounds or defending oneself against physical attack. Licensure: RN- Candidates must have an active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse within 6 months of appointment. No person appointed pending registration may be retained beyond 6 months, or promoted, if registration has not been attained.) AND Specialized Experience: For the GS-10, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Conducting patient/resident assessment; AND Developing and carrying out nursing care plans; AND Medication administration (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intradermal, topical, rectal, intravenous, etc.); AND Communicating patient/resident condition and changes to patient/resident, nursing personnel, physicians, and family members. OR Education: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelors degree, or masters degree from a professional nursing educational program SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired. Education A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained . Because the AFRH-G's mission requires uninterrupted, direct human support and medical care for its Residents, this position is considered essential for continuing AFRH-G operations. Therefore, the incumbent is expected to arrive for duty on time, as scheduled, and to complete the assigned tour during emergency situations such as hazardous weather.
