Department: 611 - Planning EEO Class: Office & Clerical FLSA Status: Non-ExemptPosition OverviewUnder general supervision, performs office support and administrative functions requiring customer service knowledge and previous computer experience. Work of this class involves the performance of clerical tasks that vary as to detail and method. Assignments are performed with supervision. Decisions necessitating changes in policies or regulations are referred to supervisor. Essential Job FunctionsEssential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, May include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.--- Receives application and plans for building and related permits.--- Answers phones and responds to customer requests. --- Identifies, researches, and resolves customer issues using the computer system. --- Receives inspection requests.--- Handles customer inquiries or directs them to the proper individual or office.--- Enters inspection requests, contractor licensing and permits into MUNIS building software.--- Collects and records fees.--- Files building permits and inspections.--- Makes mathematical calculations manually or by use of a calculator according to established methods.--- Accepting, processing, and balancing drawer to billing / payment processing system daily.--- Performs related work as required.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesMust posses required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.--- Knowledge of English, spelling, and math.--- Basic knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, equipment and standard clerical techniques.--- Ability to make mathematical calculations rapidly and accurately.--- Ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions.--- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relations as necessitated by work assignments.--- Possess strong customer service skills.--- Ability to maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with other employees, supervisor and other departments.--- Ability to organize and review work for efficient results and accuracy.--- Ability to issue and follow oral and written instructions. --- Ability to maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with other employees, supervisor and other departments.Education and ExperienceHigh School graduate or equivalent. One year of general clerical experience and one to two years of customer service experience is required. Minimum typing speed of 35 wpm. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. Required Licenses or CertificatesMust possess a valid Mississippi driver's license.Physical Demands and Working ConditionsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 10+ pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are primarily indoors.
